Business Declares’ Statement on Rosebank

Business Declares is appalled by the decision today of the UK Government to approve the Rosebank Oil Field. This is expected to produce up to 500m barrels of oil and is three times bigger than the controversial Cambo field that was put on hold more than a year ago. This will result in emissions larger than 28 lowest income countries and the oil is for export, and will not increase UK energy security.

We believe that this decision will drive us further away from the UK’s net zero strategy, plans for protecting nature and ultimately from safeguarding citizens and businesses.

We stand with the hundreds of climate scientists and academics and more than 200 organisations from the Women’s Institute to Oxfam, joining tens of thousands of people across the UK in opposition.

Add your voice to our open letter here, already signed by thousands of businesses, and due to be presented at the Tory and Labour party conferences in the coming days calling for:

  1. Rapid scale up investment and incentives in renewables

  2. Take action to protect and restore nature and halt further decline by 2030

  3. End new fossil fuel developments in the UK
