TYF Joins!
TYF was founded in 1986 as an outdoor adventure centre in our beautiful home of St. David’s, Pembrokeshire, on the wild western edge of Wales. Sustainability has been at the core of what we do from day 1, delivering environmentally friendly and low-carbon adventures designed to facilitate a love affair with nature.
We are experts in our field, introduced the World to coasteering, started the World freestyle kayaking championships, and continue to deliver World-class adventures.
Since our inception, we have taken over 200,000 people outdoors and developed adventure-inspired educational programmes which combine outdoor play in wild places with nature-based learning, sustainability, climate change and problem-solving. We believe in equipping participants with the skills, knowledge and unshakable confidence they need to be catalysts for positive environmental and social change making the World a better place.
Today, we continue to be at the forefront of change, leaders in our industry, and a bold and ambitious business who pushes the boundaries. We are one of the Founding B Corp businesses in the UK and the first in Wales, an accredited Living Wage Employer and are centred on using business as a force for good. We are proud to be an ethical retailer, the second-oldest UK retail-partner of Patagonia, offering a range of ethical and sustainable brands and setting up a Planetary Repair Centre in our on-site Retail Shop.
However, we believe we can do more. We realise our home planet is under threat and climate change is a reality and happening now. We recognise the scale and speed of change needed, and that we can do something about it.
This is why we are collaborating with the Business Declares network and declaring a Climate and Ecological Emergency. Through this formal declaration we are setting out our commitment to become not just a Climate Neutral company, but a Climate Positive company.
In December 2019, we were among over 500 B Corps who publicly outlined their commitment to reduce GHG emissions, to reach the 1.5C reduction needed, and become net-zero by 2030. This was announced at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP25, and outlines the acceleration of change needed by meeting the targets set out in the Paris Agreement 20 years ahead of schedule.
Through this declaration and in line with and addition to our B Corp Declaration of Interdependence, we commit to:
● Bring our Climate Positive Plan to our Board of Directors within 6 months of this date, share this plan publicly and update it at least on an annual basis.
● Share publicly this Climate and Ecological Emergency Declaration of intent.
● Continue to uphold our agreement to reach net-zero for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by, at the latest, 2030 (aiming for 2025).
● Share best practice, grow and expand collaborations within the Business Declares network, B Corp community, our industry and beyond.
● Be advocates for change as a progressive business for our staff, customers and local community.
● Use the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to frame and guide our environmental and social performance and produce an annual Regenerative Business - Sustainability and Impact Report.
Our approach at TYF centres on people, place and planet using our head, hands and heart. We believe in regenerative business, radical change and positive action centred on providing the best quality of life for future and current generations.
