Don’t Bank On It

Research from the Banking On Climate Chaos Report revealed that the Big 5 banks (Barclays, HSBC, Santander, NatWest and Lloyds) collectively funnelled $368 billion into the fossil fuel industry between 2016 and 2021, of which $141 billion was provided to the top 50 oil and gas expanders. Furthermore, 23 million UK bank account holders think banks should stop financing fossil fuel expansion.

Building on this research, MMMM launched their campaign, Don’t Bank On It, which has called on the UK’s Big 5 high street banks to stop financing fossil fuel expansion in an open letter.

MMMM’s open letter calling on the Big 5 high street banks to stop financing fossil fuel expansion was launched on 25th January 2023

Pre-launch, the open letter was signed by business leaders, public figures, brands and organisations, including Business Declares and a number of our members. For the full list of signatories pre-launch, visit here

Many thanks to the FT for agreeing to give us an ad page to publish the letter in the printed paper.
